Updates... Finally!!!

I have totally been neglecting the blog for the past couple of months as it has taken a backseat to the many other things going on in my life lately... all good things, I might add :)

While neglecting the blog, I have been:

Working on the new studio...
For those of you who don’t already know, we are renting a studio at Franklin Arts Center. While it’s still a work in progress, we’ve been busy cleaning, painting, organizing, etc. My step-dad and Matt even built a wall (I was so impressed)!

Taking and editing photos...
I am so happy to have been busy with lots of photo sessions these past couple of months. I’ve already had quite a few sessions in the new studio and it’s been working out really well!

Teaching 4th graders after school...

I have enjoyed coming up with creative lesson plans, working with other teachers and getting to know the 9 and 10 year-olds I teach after school 3 days a week. I can hardly believe the school year is almost over!

Staying home with my two busy children...

Ian is officially on the move and into EVERYTHING.  He has also solidified his place as the annoying little brother, wanting to be involved in anything Ada is doing and usually messing it up somehow.  It’s so fun to watch their relationship grow and change.  They have many sweet moments together and love each other a lot.  I feel so fortunate to be able to be home with them so often.

The appearance of the blog will be changing a little bit and I will be adding some additional information and more of Matt’s pottery soon.   I hope to get caught up on posting photos from recent sessions soon, too!

The Great Outdoors

My favorite family sessions are usually outdoors.  Everyone can interact a little more naturally and I am able to capture those candid shots I love so much.  Of course outdoor shoots can be a little more difficult to plan for in the winter.  Many families like to start their sessions with the kids in the studio, then move outside for the family shots.  That is exactly what these next two families chose to do...

Ethan and his family visited my studio right before his first birthday.  After getting some photos indoors, we headed to the park with their dog, a nine-year-old lab mix, who is a very special part of the family.

Julia was 18 months old when she and her parents made a special trip to Brainerd for some family photos.  We started off at my studio, then went to the old railroad yard where I was able to capture some great moments of the three of them together.

Holiday Studio Sessions

I had quite a few indoor sessions right before the holidays.  For some of these sessions, I decided to try using white Christmas lights as a backdrop.  I ended up really liking the effect.  I have been having a lot of fun playing around with different backdrop ideas lately... stay tuned for more photos :)  For now, here are some of my favorites from the holiday sessions.

New Year's Resolution

I am not big into new year's resolutions, but this year I decided to make one... I am slightly embarrassed to admit this, but I have not gotten my family's photos developed since Ada's first birthday (2.5 years ago)!!  I will, on occasion,  print a few of my favorites to display in our home or to give to relatives, but I have not put a picture in a photo album for years. It bugs me so much that I've decided to make developing and organizing photos my resolution for 2012.  If anyone out there has any good ideas on how to make this project any easier or less expensive, please let me know :)

Here are a couple of family sessions I did outdoors before it snowed.  Both days were quite chilly, but the kids did suprisingly well.

Rewind to 2011

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  We feel so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends to celebrate the holidays with.  Ada thoroughly enjoyed Christmas this year and it was so fun to share in her excitement over Santa, presents, and being around all of her favorite people.  Ian got his first tooth among many other Christmas gifts and had fun taking in all the action.  The past couple weeks have been wonderful and busy, but now it's time to get back to business...

Fall already seems like a distant memory, but I am just getting around to posting these family shoots back from October.  Many of these photos were used to make adorable Christmas cards.  It is so fun getting Christmas cards from my clients!
